New Art Foundation: Paul Magar exhibition in the town hall

Konz, November 15, 2023

The well-known artist Paul Magar spent his entire childhood and most of his studies in Konz. Until his death in 2000, he saw himself as a Konzer and never lost touch with his hometown. In order to firmly anchor his life's work and artistic work in Konz in the future, daughter Dorothea Hölzer-Magar has transferred the artist's estate to a foundation. This art foundation was founded in the summer and is based in Konz.

Works by Paul Magar can now be seen in a first exhibition on the first floor of the town hall. Anyone interested can view the pictures until February 7, 2024 during the opening hours of the Konzer Verbandsgemeinde administration. Admission is free.

At the opening of the exhibition, the board of the foundation signed an agreement with the city of Konz. It set out the principles of cooperation between the city and the foundation, specifically, among other things, a planned permanent exhibition in the Karthaus monastery, which is to begin after the renovation of the monastery has been completed.

In addition to the works of Paul Magar, the works of art by his daughter, Dorothea Hölzer-Magar, were transferred to the new foundation. In total there are more than 300 pictures, watercolors and drawings.

The board of the non-profit “Paul Magar-Dorothea Hölzer-Magar Art Foundation” consists half of members from the Konz region and the other half of members from the Bonn/Bad Godesberg region, where Paul Magar gained international fame as a “Rhinelander” after being a prisoner of war Painter”.

The city of Konz has repeatedly expressed its connection to Paul Magar in the past, for example by naming the roundabout above the Schiller Bridge as Paul-Magar-Platz.
