Representative for people with disabilities
The primary responsibilities of the volunteer representative for people with disabilities include advising and supporting those seeking help or advice on issues related to vocational integration, matters relating to the law governing severely disabled persons, the integration of children into mainstream schools and daycare centers, the necessary adaptation of housing for people with disabilities, and issues relating to social security benefits. The representative also serves as a guide to the relevant authorities.
His tasks also include advising the councils and the administration on the perception of the special needs of people with disabilities. This also includes supporting projects of other organizations in the interest of disabled people, help and support in submitting applications, arranging contacts with authorities, associations, institutions and self-help groups.
According to Section 18, Paragraph 2 of the Municipal Code of the RP, the disability representative's duties are voluntary. The disability representative is elected by the municipal council for a term of five years.
