Representative for the interests of disabled people
The tasks of the honorary representative for the disabled primarily include advising and supporting those seeking help or advice on questions of professional integration, in matters of the severely disabled person's law, the integration of children in regular schools and day-care centers, the necessary adaptation of living space for the disabled as well as questions of social benefits law. It is therefore also a guide to the responsible authorities.
His tasks also include advising the councils and the administration on the perception of the special needs of people with disabilities. This also includes supporting projects of other organizations in the interest of disabled people, help and support in submitting applications, arranging contacts with authorities, associations, institutions and self-help groups.
According to § 18 paragraph 2 GemO RP, the work of the Disability Officer is an honorary position. The Disability Officer is elected by the municipal council for a period of five years.
