Expansion of Saarstrasse in Konz

Expansion of Saarstrasse in Konz

The LBM informs:

From then on February 19, 2024 As part of the expansion work, the L 137/Saarstrasse will be closed in the Konz through town.

The construction project is divided into two consecutive construction phases. As a result of the narrow roadway widths in conjunction with the extensive civil engineering and pipe laying work, the work can only be carried out under full closure due to traffic and occupational safety concerns.

The upcoming first construction phase extends from the roundabout at the bridgehead from the junction Brückenstraße/Saarstraße to the subsequent junction Saarstraße/Saarstraße (towards Bahnhofstraße) over a length of around 310 m.

Depending on the construction activity there, the section will initially be further subdivided in the area of the bridge structure over the Konzer Bach.

Adjacent to this, the second construction phase will follow from around March 2025, including the junction of Saarstrasse/Saarstrasse (towards Bahnhofstrasse) up to the end of construction at the Konz town exit in the direction of Filzen/Kanzem over a length of 300 m.

The diversion will be signposted on site and takes place via federal highway 51, Konz-Könen bypass, K132 via Wawern, L137 in the direction of Kanzem and vice versa. For further information and details about the diversion route, please see the Mobility Atlas RLP at verkehr.rlp.de (activate the diversion route in the side menu under “Settings”).

Road users (especially through traffic) are asked to follow the signposted diversion accordingly.

Residents are asked to coordinate essential deliveries, etc. with the local civil engineering company carrying out the construction in good time.

The total execution is expected to last until the end of 2025.

The construction project is a joint project between the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Verbandsgemeindewerke Konz and the city of Konz with a total volume of 4,800,000 euros.

The state of Rhineland-Palatinate is investing an amount of around 2,950,000 euros to renew the approximately 610 m long state road. This includes the renovation work on the bridge structure over the Konzer Bach as well as the proportional costs for the renewal of the cycle path and footpath alongside the Saar.

At the same time, the Verbandsgemeindewerke Konz is renewing parts of the water supply and rainwater pipes, including the associated house connections, with a further contract value of around 940,000 euros.

On behalf of the city of Konz, the one-sided sidewalk, including street lighting, is being renovated and constructed. The total investment amount, including the proportional costs for the cycle path and footpath on the Saar side, amounts to around 915,000 euros for the necessary civil engineering work plus the lampposts.

In addition, during the same period, Westnetz will carry out adaptation work on the existing power supply lines in separate orders and Deutsche Telekom will provide new broadband connections.

Those involved in the expansion would like to thank the road users affected for their patience and understanding.
