LBM: Repair work in the Könen Forest

LBM: Repair work in the Könen Forest

The LBM informs:

From July 24, 2023, the renovation work will start in the area of the B 51 between the end of the Könen bypass and the junction with the K 132 (exit to Wawern).

For this purpose, a full closure of this section of the route for around a week is unavoidable.

The diversion during the construction period is broken down as follows:

From Saarburg to Trier:

Coming from Saarburg, traffic on the B 51 is diverted to the K130 before Ayl via Biebelhausen to the K 131 and then to the L 137 to Kanzem. From there along the Saar, traffic is routed on the L 137 to Konz. At the first roundabout in Konz ("Donutkreisel"), traffic is diverted back to the B 51 along the banks of the Saar to the roundabout at Möbel Martin.

From Trier to Saarburg:

In the opposite direction, traffic is routed from the Möbel Martin Kreisel along the banks of the Saar to the "Donutkreisel" in Konz and from there via the L 137 to Kanzem. From there, traffic is routed to Wawern on the L 137. In Wawern itself, traffic is routed via the K 132. Traffic is then rerouted from the K 132 to the B 51.

There is a different diversion route for each direction of travel in order to keep the volume of traffic as low as possible in both Biebelhausen and Wawern. Unfortunately, this is not possible in Kanzem.

However, the construction time is only around one week and falls within the summer holidays, so that less traffic than usual is to be expected.

During this construction work, the Könen bypass will remain open and passable up to the first exit to Tawern coming from Konz/Wasserliesch (K 112).

The road surface will be renovated on this approximately 1800 m long section. For this purpose, after the preparatory work, a split mastic binder layer is applied to the existing asphalt structure as a so-called top base layer. Furthermore, joints are cut and cast. Then the height of the verge, the lay-bys and the adjoining roads or forest paths are adjusted and finally a new marking is applied.

In this area, the B 51 has a traffic load of around 7,000 vehicles/24h and a heavy traffic share of around 7%. The roadway has already been patched up several times by building maintenance. Nevertheless, there are increasing signs of deformation in the roadway and the road has bumps and cracks.

The costs of around 310,000 euros will be borne by the Federal Republic of Germany.

The LBM Trier asks all road users for patience and understanding while the construction work is being implemented between the end of the Könen bypass and the junction with the K132 to Wawern.
