Konz: Maierspark on Friday, February 17, 2023 temporarily closed to visitors

The LBM is planning to further expand the Saarstraße and the cycle path that runs there in Konz, probably from the summer. Preparatory work is already taking place, which must be completed by the end of February due to the Federal Nature Conservation Act.

Trees were cut down along the road in January. Further clearing work will now take place on Friday, February 17, 2023 - this time in the Maierspark area. Therefore, the park will be closed to visitors for a short time in the morning hours.

The expansion of the Saarstraße and the cycle path was decided by the city council in spring 2022. The felling of the spruce trees in the entrance area of the Maierspark is necessary because the water pipes that run there will also be replaced in the course of the planned expansion. The measure has been agreed with the responsible nature conservation authority.

All in all, fewer trees will have to be removed than assumed at the start of planning. The LBM wants to use so-called root bridges for the expansion of the cycle path, which lie over the roots of the trees there and thus protect them.
