General:
Police clearance certificates provide information on whether the person named in the certificate has a criminal record or not. Employers therefore often require the submission of a certificate of good conduct before hiring a new employee. There are two types of certificate of good conduct:

• the private certificate of good conduct (for private purposes)
• the official certificate of good conduct (to be presented to a German authority)

The data of the certificate of good conduct comes from the Federal Central Register. Any person over the age of 14 can apply for a certificate of good conduct.

Online portal of the Federal Office of Justice

With the introduction of the new electronic identity card, it is now also possible to submit certain applications online to the Federal Office of Justice.

Currently you can Certificates of good conduct and information from the central trade register apply online.

To apply online, you need:

• A new identity card or one electronic residence permit each with an activated online ID function.
• A card reader to read the ID document.
• The one available since November 1st, 2014 ID App2 . (Earlier versions cannot be used)
• If necessary, a digital recording device (e.g. scanner or digital camera) to upload evidence.

You can also submit the application in person at the citizens' office of the Konz municipal administration.

Necessary documents

1. ID card or passport. The application for a certificate of good conduct can be submitted to the Konz Citizens' Office on presentation of an identification document only personal be asked.
2. It is not possible to authorize another person.

The fee is 13.00 euros.
