Loss of the new identity card (date of issue from November 1st, 2010!):

If you lose your new ID card, you must have the online ID function blocked for your own security, unless it was deactivated when you picked it up or later by a passport authority. You can block this by calling the blocking emergency number 0180-1333333 (Monday to Sunday, 0 a.m. to midnight, also available from abroad, costs 3.9 cents/min. from a German landline, max. 42 cents/min. from the mobile network). To do this, you need the blocking password that you received with your personal PIN and your PUK.

You can also have your ID card blocked directly at the Citizens’ Registration Office.

If you have decided to use the signature function with the electronic signature in addition to the online ID function, please note that you can only have this blocked by the provider from whom you purchased your signature certificate.

In addition, you must submit a written notification of loss before applying for a new identity card at the Citizens' Registration Office.
