    Current information:

From March 1st, 2017, the new passport (ePassport 3.0) will be introduced by the Federal Ministry of the Interior.

The new passport will be equipped with new, contemporary security features. There will also be improvements in user-friendliness through the use of new materials. The fee for issuing a passport to persons who have reached the age of 24 is EUR 70.00.

The passport fee for applicants who have not yet reached the age of 24 remains unchanged at EUR 37.50.

Important for already issued or applied for passports:

Passports that have already been issued or applied for remain valid until the respective specified date. An exchange is therefore not necessary. Please note that the facial appearance, especially of infants and small children, can change so much within six years that identification with the original identification document is sometimes impossible This is no longer possible well before the printed end of validity is reached and the identification document is therefore prematurely invalid . In this case, please apply for a new document (identity card or passport) in good time before departure.

    additions

The passport cannot be taken immediately after the application, as it is produced in the Federal Printing Office in Berlin. If the passport is required sooner, an express pass can be requested. If you cannot collect your passport in person, you can authorize another person in writing. This person must identify themselves and hand in their old passport, if they have one.

Detailed travel and safety information for all countries can be found online from the Federal Foreign Office. There you can find out under "Entry requirements for German nationals" for which countries a passport is required or an identity card is sufficient.

You can also find detailed information on the subject of ePassports on the website of the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
