Apply for a child passport

Please pay particular attention to our information under:
  • service description

In many countries outside the European Union (EU), your child needs a passport when entering the country. A children's passport can be the right document for your child.

The children's passport does not contain an electronic storage medium (chip), so no fingerprints are recorded for the application.

The children's passport is recognized worldwide and is valid for one year. It can be extended by a further 12 months at a time, but no longer than the 12th year of life. From the age of 12 children need an ID card or a passport, depending on the destination.

In some countries (e.g. in the USA) visa-free entry is only possible with an electronic passport. If you want to enter Germany with a children's passport, you will also need a visa in these cases.

Note: Children's passports that were issued before January 1st, 2021 remain valid until the validity date printed on them.
