Nationwide warning day on September 14, 2023

At the Thursday, September 14, 2023, at 11 a.m Sirens and smartphones are wailing again in many places in Germany to rehearse for an emergency. On the nationwide warning day, which takes place on this day, the function of warning devices should be checked for possible weak points. In addition to sirens, this also means digital warning options, such as apps, media and the new “Cell Broadcast” – i.e. an SMS that reaches many cell phones in Germany directly.

In particular, reports about “warning apps” and “cell broadcast” will reach many people in the Konz community at lightning speed. A warning via siren is not yet possible here. Because at the moment the sirens can technically only emit the warning tone to alert the fire department. However, the tone used by disaster control to warn the population sounds different: it is not a continuous tone that is interrupted twice, but rather a rising and falling howling tone that differs from the normal alarm. So that the sirens are able to emit different sound sequences, they will be converted nationwide in the coming years.
