Nationwide warning day 2022
The next nationwide warning day will take place on December 8th, 2022.
On this day, the federal and state governments, as well as the participating districts, urban districts and municipalities activate their warning devices such as radio, television, digital city display boards and warning apps as part of a joint exercise from 11:00 a.m. The aim is to check the technical processes and the function of the warning devices for possible weak points.
Furthermore, on the nationwide warning day, people in Germany should be made familiar with the topic of warning the population. The more familiar they are with it, the more independently and effectively they can act and protect themselves in a crisis situation. For this reason, a message is spread in many different ways: sirens, loudspeaker announcements, media reports (radio, television, websites) or warning apps. For the first time, a warning will also be sent via “cell broadcast” – i.e. an SMS that reaches around half of all mobile phones in Germany directly.
The sirens are currently mainly used to alert the fire brigade. The sirens currently have neither a technical nor an organizational possibility to be used by fire and/or disaster control to warn the population. However, the siren network is to be expanded in the coming years to warn the population.
