However, the application is always subject to reservations, since authorization must be obtained from the responsible diplomatic mission in each individual case.

Since the issuance of the passport is regulated by state laws, applicants should definitely contact the relevant registration authority beforehand and find out about the fees and required documents.
Any existing old passport must be handed in.

What fees apply?

The fee must be paid in cash or by EC card from a German bank account when applying (credit cards are not accepted). Payment by bank transfer or on collection is not possible.

What else should I know?
For children born abroad, the local diplomatic missions responsible for the place of birth are responsible for issuing a passport or passport replacement document for the first time, regardless of whether the habitual residence has shifted to Germany. Entry with a child born abroad is only permitted with a valid document.
