Young people design retaining wall at Wiltinger sports field

Turn gray into color! Twelve young people from Wiltingen, ages 12 to 16, designed the newly renovated retaining wall at the sports field as part of a three-day graffiti workshop. The cultural-educational participation project was organized and supervised by the Konz Municipality's Mobile Youth Work in cooperation with, and with professional guidance from, the artist agency. Urban Drips from Trier.

The project was made possible thanks to financial support from the LEADER funding program of the Local Action Group (LAG) Moselfranken, which specifically strengthens and promotes creative and participatory projects in rural areas.

The goal was to enable young people to participate creatively in shaping their immediate living environment. Through collaborative discussions and creative exercises, initial sketches were developed. Subsequently, motifs on themes such as home, solidarity, culture, sports, and nature were jointly developed and artistically implemented directly on the approximately 130-meter-long wall in three large-format motifs – a work of art unique in its form and size within the municipality.

The project not only fostered team spirit and the young people's sense of identity with their home community, but also strengthened their creativity, self-confidence, and sense of responsibility. It's a successful example of youth participation and meaningful support in rural areas – right in the heart of young people's lives.
