"Understood - the town hall" - children's tour through Konzer town hall

At the Thursday 15 June 2023 , the town hall detectives were out and about in Konz. Already in the morning, elementary school classes asked Mayor Weber and the administrative staff curious questions. During their tour, they learned, for example, how playgrounds are planned, were able to leaf through brochures with playground equipment and spoke specifically about the playground in Konz-Könen. This was designed according to children's wishes: At a workshop about five years ago, the little ones were able to make their own play equipment "in small" and one or the other design made it "in large and real" to the playground at the end. The result is great, the elementary school children assured the planners during the town hall tour on Thursday.

Mayor Joachim Weber also showed the children the meeting room and his office. Anything could be asked: Favorite food, age, daily routine and what the mayor likes or dislikes about his job.

At the public order office, the children learned everything about dogs, among other things: Why is it important to leash them? And what about vicious dogs? Of course, the road traffic authority was also allowed to be questioned and answer questions about illegal parking, for example.

At 3 p.m., all the children were then invited to the market square. There, the playmobil provided fun and the children could take part in a democracy quiz.

The quiz and tour were based on the story in the learning booklet "Understand - The Town Hall". The booklet has been distributed to all third and fourth graders in the VG Konz over the past few weeks and discussed in class. It provides an age-appropriate introduction to the topics of “municipal politics” and “municipal administration”. Pupils and teachers were enthusiastic about the campaign and the children's questions during the tour of the town hall showed: The children were no longer unfamiliar with how democracy works on site and they wanted to know more.

The project was funded by the partnership for democracy in the VG Konz.
