Refurbishment of the B51 - change in traffic routing

Refurbishment of the B51 - change in traffic routing

The LBM informs:

It is expected that on November 28, 2022, the traffic routing will be changed for the renovation of the Konz lane.

Traffic will then be routed on the now completed lane.

At the start of the last construction phase, the section of track is first examined for possible explosive ordnance contamination and then the existing shoulders are removed. The layers of asphalt are then milled off, additional road gullies installed and the existing frost protection base reinforced. Then the existing road gullies are set to the new roadway height and the asphalt layers are installed. Since there is a very slight longitudinal gradient in this area, a mastic asphalt pendulum channel is being built to ensure proper drainage of the roadway.

Work on the renovation of the B 51 between the Trier-Feyen railway bridge and the railway bridge near Karthaus has been underway since September 14, 2022. With the completion of construction phases 1 and 2, access to the K 134 (Kuag route) is once again freely accessible. The final work of the fourth construction phase and the preparatory work for the change in traffic management are currently being carried out.

Overall, construction has been slightly delayed. The reasons for this are sickness-related staff absences at subcontractors and technical problems at the paver. Furthermore, the condition of the drainage facilities was in some cases significantly worse than assumed during the preparations for construction, so that more extensive work was necessary here. In addition, temperature-reduced asphalt was installed on the road in the direction of Trier. However, this could only be done under appropriate weather conditions in order to ensure the appropriate quality.

Provided that the weather conditions are appropriate, the construction project will be completed by the end of 2022.

The LBM Trier asks all road users for patience and understanding for the unavoidable impairments during the construction period.
