Legal “wild camping” at the new trekking site in Tawern!
A pure nature experience: The new trekking site in Tawern is now available for booking and use. Hikers and pilgrims can spend the night here under the open sky from April to October, right next to the Roman temple complex. A first-class, idyllic location – directly on the Way of St. James, which has enjoyed renewed popularity in recent years.

The trekking site consists of a comfortable wooden platform that can comfortably accommodate two tents. It is equipped with two small benches and a table—ideal for enjoying a snack or breakfast outdoors. A composting toilet facility is also located nearby, so you won't miss anything.
The project was implemented by Saar-Obermosel-Touristik (SOT) and the hiking trail warden. The "Römertempel" trekking site received 80 percent funding from the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park.
"Trekking sites are a wonderful opportunity to experience nature in a unique way. Spending the night in the great outdoors and waking up in the Roman ambience of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park is an impressive experience," says Stefanie Koch, Managing Director of Saar-Obermosel-Touristik.
Guido Wacht, the full-time councilor of the Konz district, and Ursula Clemens, the mayor of Tawern, are also enthusiastic. "With offers like these, we are making the wonderful nature in the Konz district and Tawern a new experience. Therefore, we are convinced that not only pilgrims and tourists will use the new trekking site, but also those who call this area home."
The trekking site “Römertempel” can be booked online via the booking portal of Saar-Obermosel-Touristik ( https://www.saar-obermosel.de/buchen/trekkingplaetze#/unterkuenfte ) for 15 euros per night. Upon booking, the user receives the exact GPX location and the code for the toilet. Shopping opportunities for pilgrims are available in Tawern at the village bakery and the Borens bakery.
