Information on the provision of firewood
The forest districts are currently planning the upcoming hardwood logging. During these harvests, in addition to logs and timber for industrial use, firewood for local use will also be harvested. The firewood will be provided in the form of delimbed tree trunks in individual piles along the forest road. Area-free processing, i.e., the processing of firewood in the stand, will only be offered in a few justified exceptional cases.
You can order the desired quantities of firewood from the forest districts Freudenburg-Trassem, Kell-Waldweiler, Klink, Konz-Wiltingen, Palzem, Schillingen, Saarburg-Tobiashaus and Zerf-Greimerath online on the website of the Saarburg Forestry Office ( https://www.wald-rlp.de/forstamt-saarburg ) and receive a confirmation email. This procedure is familiar from previous years.
As in previous years, firewood from the Serrig forest district will be auctioned and therefore cannot be ordered online. There is a general limit of 10 cubic meters per household. Each household must submit a separate order.
The order period begins on 30.09.2025 and ends on 15.11.2025. Orders received after this date cannot be considered. . The dates for the auctions in the Serrig forest district from spring 2026 will be announced in good time on the Forestry Office website .
We primarily offer hardwoods (beech, oak, birch, and, to a certain extent, red oak, cherry, or other hardwoods). In state-owned forests, the price is €73.00 per cubic metre including 7% VAT (1 cubic metre corresponds to 1.4 RM). In municipal forests, prices may vary and are announced by the respective municipality.
Firewood is usually made available in the following spring. However, if weather conditions prevent harvesting or transporting wood in the forest, it may take until early summer to protect forest soils and stands. Firewood customers receive a notification when their firewood is ready, along with an invoice with a map indicating the storage location.
As soon as the invoice has been paid, processing in the forest or removal can begin. The conditions to be observed are listed in the online ordering process and must be confirmed when ordering. What is particularly important is proof of expertise in using a chainsaw for processing in the forest. You can usually only burn the wood the following year when it has dried sufficiently.
