Gymnasium Konz wins 500 euros at the Westenergie Distance Duel

The students of Konz High School were delighted. For their successful participation in the Westenergie Distance Duel, they received a check for their achievement. Since the participants covered an average of 4.36 kilometers per person within 30 minutes, they were rewarded with prize money of 500 euros.

"The outstanding performance of the students at the Konz high school is a good example of how sports can strengthen togetherness. Our youth impressed with their commitment and team spirit," said Guido Wacht, the newly elected mayor of the city and municipality of Konz. "We would like to recognize the participants' commitment with a prize of 500 euros. Together, they have shown how much can be achieved as a team," said Christian Nathem, Westenergie municipal manager.

The Westenergie Distance Duel focuses on schoolchildren. The goal is to offer them access to sporting activities, foster team spirit, and make exercise fun. The goal is a fair, equal competition where cooperation wins.

New this year: All schools whose participants ran an average of at least three kilometers will receive cash prizes. In addition, the class within each school that covered the longest distance on average within 30 minutes will receive a matching T-shirt.

Distance Duel 2026

All secondary schools from municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Lower Saxony with which Westenergie collaborates as an energy and infrastructure provider are eligible to apply for the Westenergie Distance Duel 2026. The requirements for the running event are that at least 75 percent of the students at a school participate, and at least ten schools participate per competition year. The schools can look forward to attractive prize money: Depending on the distance covered, they can receive between €250 and €1,000 in prize money.

Westenergie organizes the entire running event for each participating school, including refreshments and a DJ. Charity runs can also be integrated into the Westenergie Distance Duel.
