Saar-Pedal 2025 – Cycling, Enjoying, Experiencing!

On Sunday, May 18, 2025, The Saar Valley belongs entirely to active people: For the 29th time, the popular Saar-Pedal adventure day invites you to enjoy car-free cycling. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the roads between Konz and Merzig will be closed to motorized traffic – leaving the road free for cyclists, skaters, and hikers!

The symbolic starting signal will be given simultaneously in Konz and Merzig City Park. The approximately 40-kilometer route runs along the picturesque Saar River—ideal for combining nature, exercise, and socializing. Those who don't want to drive the entire route can conveniently transfer to the train. Special trains between Trier and Saarbrücken carry bicycles free of charge—thanks to additional bicycle carriages.

One day – many highlights!

Saar-Pedal is more than just cycling. Eleven activity zones along the route invite you to linger, participate, and enjoy. In Konz, Kanzem, Wiltingen, Schoden, Ockfen, Saarburg, Serrig, Saarhölzbach, Mettlach, and Merzig, the municipalities, clubs, winemakers, and restaurateurs provide a colorful, family-friendly program. Culinary delights await guests, from traditional spit roasts and Schwenkbraten (swivel roasts), fish dishes, and jacket potatoes with quark to pizza, pea soup, crêpes, waffles, and lavish cake buffets. Numerous beer, wine, cider, and cocktail stands provide the perfect refreshment.

There's also plenty of music on offer: local music groups, live bands and DJs will create a good atmosphere in several activity zones and invite you to linger.

Children will also get their money's worth. They can look forward to a wide range of activities, including a bike course, a tower spectacle, face painting, dance workshops, exciting trial bike demonstrations, a roller sprint track, and a hands-on circus.

Service is a top priority

Breakdown assistance is available in Konz, Schoden, Serrig, and Merzig. The "Frei Weg" Serrig cycling club also operates a mobile service between Konz and Saarhölzbach. The police, German Red Cross (DRK), fire departments, and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) are working together to ensure route safety. Several accident assistance stations have also been set up and are staffed throughout the day.

A joint project with tailwind

Saar-Pedal thrives on strong community spirit. Main sponsor Bitburger has supported the event for over ten years. Other partners include Volksbank Trier eG and SaarRiesling e.V. The Multicycle Cube Store Trier and the AOK health insurance company will also have information booths along the route.

The event is organized by the municipalities of Konz and Saarburg-Kell (Rhineland-Palatinate), as well as Mettlach and Merzig (Saarland). Saar-Obermosel Tourism is responsible for coordination, with the active support of numerous volunteers who make this day possible every year.
