Motorized reinforcement for the volunteer fire departments
The operation is already underway; many firefighters are already on site. However, some firefighters are arriving late at the fire station in their local community, for example, because they work further away and therefore have a longer commute. Six new personnel transport vehicles, purchased by the Konz municipality, will serve as a kind of "feeder" in such cases. They can transport late-arriving firefighters quickly and collectively to the scene. During long operations, they also help relieve and rotate firefighters. Of course, they can also be used for other purposes.

"Overall, the new vehicles give the volunteer fire departments more flexibility and simplify operations," says Guido Wacht, full-time deputy of the Konz district council. "It's not just about getting from A to B quickly. The vehicles are equipped with loudspeakers, for example, to effectively warn the population in the event of heavy rain, flooding, or heavy smoke. In addition, three of them have practical features such as a
Folding table so that meetings can be held directly on site during the operation."
The six new vehicles are located in Kanzem, Temmels, Oberemmel, Tawern, Niedermennig, and Wasserliesch. There, they are also used as transport vehicles for the youth fire brigade.
In addition to the personnel transport vehicles, the new motorized acquisitions also include a multi-purpose boat. "It's equipped with GPS and a sonar system," explains Mario Gaspar, fire chief of the Konz municipality. "This means it can be used not only for emergency response and firefighting operations, but also for search and rescue operations in the Moselle or Saar rivers."
In total, the Konz municipality has invested around 580,000 euros in the motorized reinforcement of the fire brigades.
