Pellingen: Groundbreaking ceremony for new artificial turf pitch
An important step for sports in Pellingen has been taken: With the groundbreaking ceremony, the renovation of the aging clay pitch has officially begun. Ideally, a new artificial turf pitch should be completed on the site later this year.
The existing pitch is over 45 years old and had recently shown significant deficiencies; in particular, it was often only partially usable in the rain. The renovation will significantly improve training and playing conditions – an important boost for sporting and social life in Pellingen.
In addition to the pitch, the long jump pit and floodlight masts are also being renovated, and sections of the fence are being replaced. SV Pellingen is helping out, for example with paving work and dismantling the old fence.

Both club sports and the Pellingen primary school will benefit from the modernized sports facility in the future.
"The new artificial turf pitch is a real asset for our community. It creates a modern meeting place for all generations," says Mayor Andreas Steier.
The total costs amount to approximately 1.2 million euros. The state of Rhineland-Palatinate is funding the project with 419,000 euros, the municipality of Konz is contributing 270,000 euros, and the district of Trier-Saarburg is contributing 84,000 euros.
The mayor of the municipality of Konz, Guido Wacht, emphasizes: “More than just a sports field is being created here – we are investing in community, health and the future of our local communities. I am particularly pleased by the great local commitment that is supporting this project.”
