LBM: Repair of the Schillerstrasse bridge
The LBM informs:
On Monday, June 29th, the repair of the Schillerstrasse bridge on state road 138 (L 138) in Konz will begin.
The work is being carried out to preserve the structure and will be done under full closure of the bridge.
The L 138 is an important traffic link within the town of Konz, connecting the town to both the B 407 federal highway towards Saarburg and the B 419 federal highway. The Schillerstraße bridge plays a significant role within the local road network, carrying the railway tracks of Deutsche Bahn and Bahnhofstraße (Station Street).
The repair work encompasses the entire bridge structure across its full length and width, including the connecting points. To shorten the construction time and minimize traffic disruptions, the renewal of the bridge's waterproofing will be carried out using a rapid construction method with the HANV system (a high-void asphalt support structure with subsequent infilling).
The full closure required for road repairs will be limited to the first three weeks of the summer holidays in Rhineland-Palatinate. During this period, the bridge waterproofing and the road surface will be renewed. The work is scheduled from June 29th to July 17th, 2026 (weeks 27 to 29).
The Schillerstraße bridge will generally remain open to pedestrians during the full closure. However, during certain construction phases, it may be necessary to temporarily use the sidewalks on the bridge for work purposes. During these short-term restrictions, alternative crossing options are available in the immediate vicinity, including the Brienon Bridge at the train station and the pedestrian underpass between Konstantinstraße and Bahnhofstraße.
Further work on the structure will follow. In calendar week 31, the concrete supports and concrete repair work beneath the bridge will be carried out. This may cause minor and short-term traffic disruptions on Bahnhofstrasse. However, the Schillerstrasse bridge itself will already be fully open to traffic again at that time.
Furthermore, accompanying traffic regulations will be implemented in the city center. These include, among other things, the establishment of no-stopping zones and adjustments to the right-of-way rules on Merzlicher Straße in the direction of Brunostraße. During this period, Merzlicher Straße will be treated as a priority road with a bend. Previously, Trierer Straße and Brunostraße had priority.
The total cost of the project amounts to approximately 200,000 euros. Funding is provided by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
The contractor is the company Köhler Sonderbau GmbH & CO. KG from Trier.
The planned traffic routing and further information on the construction project can be found at the Mobility Atlas The information can be found in the Rhineland-Palatinate website. A graphic representation of the traffic management and detour routes is also available there.
The LBM Trier and the construction company are committed to minimizing the impact of the construction work on residents and road users. We ask for your understanding regarding any disruptions that may occur during the construction period.
