Food: market surveillance

In production plants, egg packing stations and slaughterhouses, as well as in wholesale and retail distribution centers (the so-called "bottlenecks" of marketing), agricultural products of animal and plant origin are checked by quality controllers to ensure that they comply with uniform EU and German quality standards and trade classes. Uniform quality criteria facilitate Community trade and thus ensure that the population is supplied with consistently high quality products.
The monitoring activities take place mainly in the market sectors of beef and pork, eggs and poultry, fruit, vegetables and potatoes (economic consumer protection).

The veterinary office at the Trier-Saarburg district administration is responsible for food monitoring in the Konz municipality.
