Skulpturen am Fluss

"Sentry" von Eileen Mac Donagh

"Sentry"

von Eileen Mac Donagh

When I received an invitation to the Symposium in Konz I did some research on the area and discovered amongst other things that the Romans had been there. In the quarry I was attracted to the many long stones and I choose one of these for my sculpture. I always envisaged it as standing upright - a figure in the landscape, may be a soldier, a sentry or even a Constantine.

For me once I have formulated an idea of what I want to make the most important and difficult thing is not always the actual physical making of the sculpture but finding a good site for it when it is made. I got a great opportunity to place my sculpture on a hill amongst the vineyards and like to think of it as a Guardian of this wonderful landscape.
