Information on the provision of firewood
The forest districts are currently planning the upcoming felling of hardwood trees. In these wood harvesting measures, in addition to the trunk wood and the wood for industry, firewood is also cut for local needs.
The firewood is provided in the form of tree trunks that have already been delimbed in individual piles along the forest path.
Arealess processing, i.e., processing of firewood within existing stands, is only offered in a few justified exceptional cases.
You can order the desired quantities of firewood from the forest districts of Freudenburg-Trassem, Kell-Waldweiler, Klink, Konz-Wiltingen, Palzem, Schillingen, Saarburg-Tobiashaus and Zerf-Greimerath online on the website of the Saarburg Forestry Office (https://www.wald-rlp.de/forstamt-saarburg) and will receive a confirmation to your email address.
In principle, there is a limit to the purchase quantity of 10 FM per household. Each household must place its own order.
The order period begins on September 29, 2026 and ends on November 22, 2026. Orders received after this time cannot be accepted.
The primary timber offered is hardwood (beech, oak, birch, and to a lesser extent, red oak, cherry, or other hardwoods). In state forests, the price for beech, hornbeam, maple, and ash is €75.00 per cubic meter (m³) including 7% VAT, while the price for oak, birch, red oak, cherry, or other hardwoods is €68.00 per cubic meter (m³) including 7% VAT. Firewood is usually provided next spring. However, if the weather does not allow wood harvesting or transporting wood in the forest, it can take until early summer to protect forest floors and stocks.
Customers ordering firewood will receive a notification when their firewood is ready, along with an invoice and a map indicating the storage location. Once the invoice is paid, processing in the forest or transport can begin. The applicable conditions are listed in the online ordering process and must be confirmed during the ordering process. In particular, proof of competence in operating a chainsaw for processing firewood in the forest is required.
You can usually only burn the wood in the following year, once it has dried sufficiently.
