Konzer Tafel inaugurated at its new location

Since the end of April, the Konz food bank has been located at its new address at Roscheider Straße 2. At the official opening of the premises this week, Mayor Guido Wacht presented a grant award of €5,000. This subsidy, in recognition of the organization's volunteer work, was approved by the city council last year.

The Konz food bank provides food to around 100 households per opening day. Distribution takes place once a week, on Wednesdays from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. The food bank receives the necessary goods primarily from supermarkets. In addition, private individuals, companies, associations, and institutions such as the Rotary Club contribute significantly through donations. In this way, not only can people in need be provided with affordable food, but food waste can also be prevented.

The new premises were acquired in recent months by a subsidiary of Saar-Mosel Werke, Gesellschaft für kommunale Immobilien Konz mbH (GKI), and specifically adapted to the needs of the food bank. The building modules, which previously served as refugee accommodation, now offer suitable areas for sorting and storing food, as well as office and kitchen areas.
