Heat sponsors wanted!

Summer is just around the corner and heat is a barely visible problem compared to the effects of climate change. Health risks from heat affect everyone. But some people are particularly at risk on hot days due to certain risk factors. For many older people, very high temperatures with little cooling at night over several days are a great physical strain. This is where the initiative “Heat sponsors in the VG Konz” In the event of extreme heat (summer months June 1 to August 31), volunteers can offer their support by making phone calls or visiting people in need.

The “Heat Sponsors in the VG Konz” initiative is part of the “Life-Shaping Age” project of the Trier-Saarburg district and in cooperation with the community nurse plus of the VG Konz. The aim of the initiative is to bring people in need together with volunteers who are happy to help. So-called heat sponsorships are intended to create a low-threshold offer for heat protection for older people.

How does a heat sponsorship work?

We will prepare you for this task. At an information event in Konz-Karthaus, you will receive an overview of the tasks of the heat sponsor and will be informed about legal and insurance issues. You will receive theoretical and practical input and tips on how to properly deal with older people during hot days. You will also be informed about heat-related symptoms so that

Deteriorations in health (e.g. dizziness, vomiting, sudden headaches) can be better noticed and appropriate relief measures can be organized.
