Apply for a marriage certificate

Please pay particular attention to our information under:
  • service description

If you have married and need a new marriage certificate or an extract from the marriage register, you can apply for it at the registry office. Please contact the registry office in the district where you were married.

The marriage certificate proves your marriage to your spouse. It contains your first and last names from the date of the marriage and before, your spouse's birth names at the time of the marriage, the place and date of your birth, the place and date of your marriage, and, if applicable, any subsequent documentation regarding the dissolution of the marriage by divorce or death, or annulment of the marriage by court decision.

You can obtain the marriage certificate in the following forms:

    • Marriage certificate
    • Multilingual marriage certificate, colloquially also international marriage certificate
    • certified extract from the marriage register

A certified copy from the marriage register contains all the data that the registry office has recorded in connection with your marriage.

If the personal status details of the spouses change, for example due to a name change, divorce, or annulment of the marriage by court decision, the marriage certificate is updated with subsequent documents. An updated marriage certificate can then be issued upon request.
