Canal and road rehabilitation around Karthaus train station

Following the completion of maintenance work on the Schiller Bridge in Konz's town center, road construction is now underway in Konz-Karthaus. The affected area is in front of the Karthaus train station and around the intersection of Albanstrasse and Merzlicher Strasse. The work is necessary for urgently required sewer repairs and subsequent resurfacing.

Should the Schiller Bridge be open to traffic as planned during the local festival and wine festival, the renovation work in Karthaus will begin on Monday, July 20, 2026, initially with a partial closure. On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the bridge will be completely closed to traffic until and including Saturday, July 25, 2026.

UPDATE due to a delay in the completion of the maintenance work on the Schiller Bridge: The renovation work is expected to start soon. On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, there will initially be a partial closure. From Wednesday, July 29, 2026, to Friday, August 7, 2026, there will be a complete closure for all traffic.

UPDATE 2: The Schiller Bridge is now expected to be completed on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Therefore, the construction site setup in Karthaus will begin on Monday, July 27, 2026. Starting Tuesday, work will be carried out under a partial road closure. From Wednesday, July 29, 2026, to Friday, August 7, 2026, the road will be completely closed to traffic.

Local traffic is permitted up to the construction site. The detour will be via the surrounding local roads. Access to Karthaus from Trier will remain possible via the B51 and Trierer Straße during the full closure. Access from Konz town center will remain possible via the Granabrücke bridge and Karthäuser Straße.
