Repair work on the steam locomotive in Bahnhofstrasse begins
The historic steam locomotive in Bahnhofstrasse in Konz will undergo extensive restoration in the coming weeks to permanently protect it from rust and preserve it.
First, the locomotive is scaffolded and enclosed. Then it is thoroughly cleaned – inside and out. Old, damaged paint layers and rust spots are removed.
In the next step, the steam locomotive will receive a new protective coating in several layers. Details such as wheels and rods will also be repainted. An additional protective layer will ensure that the locomotive is better protected against the elements in the future.
The renovation work is scheduled to be completed before the local wine festival in mid-July.
The historic museum locomotive, the so-called "Bubikopf" with the number 064 393-2, was restored about ten years ago by the then association Dampflokfreunde Konz e.V., before it was transported to its current location as part of the redesign of Bahnhofstraße.
To preserve the locomotive in the long term, it must be repaired at certain intervals by applying paint and protective coatings.
