Impulses for the future of democracy
On Monday, June 1, 2026, members of the democracy alliance "Partnership for Democracy in the Konz Municipal Association" (PfD VG Konz) met. Together with Frankfurt-based social researcher Dr. Michael Becker, the alliance discussed the state of democracy in the municipality. The approximately 25 attendees from politics, administration, religious communities, associations, and civil society contributed their diverse perspectives and experiences, reflecting on the current challenges and development opportunities for democratic coexistence in the Konz municipality. Dr. Becker provided expert input from current research on democracy, supporting the discussion. Key topics included questions of local social cohesion, trust in the functioning of state institutions within the municipality, and the various opportunities for participation and civic engagement in the Konz municipality. Finally, the discussion focused on different possible scenarios for social change in the Konz municipality.
The results will subsequently be incorporated into the "Situation and Resource Analysis" of the Partnership for Democracy in the Konz Municipal Association (PfD VG Konz). The aim of this academic analysis is to compile practical recommendations for action to further develop democracy in the Konz Municipal Association in a targeted manner over the coming years. The results will be presented at the next alliance meeting in early September. Interested individuals are welcome to subscribe to the democracy newsletter via email. Furthermore, there is the possibility of implementing a democracy project in the Konz Municipal Association and receiving funding. To meet the necessary selection criteria, early consultation regarding funding opportunities is recommended (appointments can be made via email). Municipal democracy promotion through the "Partnership for Democracy in the Konz Municipal Association" is part of the federal program "Democracy Live!", funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (funding period: 2025-2032).
