New leisure facility opened on the banks of the Moselle in Wasserliesch

Wasserliesch, July 7, 2023

A barbecue area, a multifunctional playground e.g. for volleyball or badminton, a boules court, a slackline, sun loungers, a wave guide and also a swing. All of this is available in the new play and leisure facility on the banks of the Moselle in Wasserliesch, which was officially opened on Friday. With its wide range of offers, it is an enrichment for the leisure activities of the citizens.

Photo: Mayor Thomas Thelen and the mayor of the VG, Joachim Weber, cut the red ribbon together with representatives of the local community, the construction companies and the engineering office and open the facility.

"The approximately 1500 square meter area offers something for everyone," says Thomas Thelen, Mayor of the local municipality of Wasserliesch. “A wide variety of sporting activities are possible there – for children, young people and adults. There are also sun loungers and other seating options for those who are less active.”

And of course the location directly on the Albach also contributes to the attractiveness of the leisure facility. Joachim Weber, Mayor of the Konz Association of Municipalities, emphasizes: "The body of water that has been renatured in this area over the past few months creates a special ambience and also invites you to linger with its pebbles."

The redesign of the play and leisure facility on the banks of the Moselle in Wasserliesch has been planned since 2017. In 2018 there was already the first decision of the local council. Due to the general cost increases in recent years, however, the start of implementation took a long time.

The costs for the system amount to around 130,000 euros. Almost 78,000 euros were funded from the Rhineland-Palatinate village renewal program.

The renaturation of the Albach in this area cost around 500,000 euros; around 400,000 euros come from the state funding program BlauPlus.
