LBM and the city of Konz modernize the traffic junction during the summer holidays

Conc, July 06, 2023

Update: The construction work is scheduled to start in the second week of vacation.

Probably in the first During the summer holiday week, construction work begins to modernize the Granastrasse/Schillerstrasse traffic junction in Konz. The LBM will renew the lanes, expand crossing aids to be barrier-free and embed induction loops for the traffic lights in the asphalt in the entire crossing area. The background: The existing traffic light system is getting on in years and no longer meets today's technical standards. The new system will then be switched according to traffic and no longer - as before - according to fixed times. This means that the traffic light will react more flexibly to the current local traffic in the future.

In addition, during the measure, the municipal utilities in the crossing area are replacing, among other things, sewer lines, the city of Konz is renewing the sidewalks and Deutsche Telekom is laying fiber optic lines there.

Work begins on Granastrasse between the roundabout by the blue column and the Granastrasse/Schillerstrasse intersection. For this purpose, the road section will be completely closed for around four weeks and sidewalks will also be alternately unusable. The traffic connection between the donut roundabout and Schillerstraße will initially remain one lane under traffic lights.

In the subsequent four to six-week construction phase, however, the junction must be completely closed. Pedestrians can access the plots via provisional access roads. In Schillerstraße, access to the street "Am Markt" is still guaranteed.

As far as possible, the construction work was carried out during the summer holidays, when there was less traffic. However, the overall measure cannot be completely finished during the holidays, as it is very extensive. It is planned to be completed by the end of September.

The long-distance diversion of the LBM runs via the B51 (bypass).

Local bypasses are possible, for example, via Saarstraße and Bahnhofsstraße, via the Karthaus bridge and via the B51/Möbel Martin Kreisel connecting clasp.

The exact start of construction work and closures will be announced later.
