Modernization measures in the municipality of Konz

Autumn break is over. And a lot has happened in the schools and gyms of the Konz municipality.

For example, the renovation of the St. Nikolaus gymnasium in Konz was completed during the holiday season. The walls were previously covered with carpet that already had large holes, but now they shine in new splendor.

The protective walls are important so that children and young people do not injure themselves when they hit the walls during sports. Carpet used to be the material of choice for this. But on the one hand, this has been abandoned for hygienic reasons. On the other hand, children can also injure themselves on a rough carpet. "That's why wooden elements have now been added, which are also much more sustainable than carpet. An impact is cushioned by a flexible substructure,” explains Achim Lutz, head of the construction department at the Konz municipality.

The work at the elementary school in Wasserliesch has also made good progress. There, acoustic ceilings are installed in the classrooms and corridors. "This suppresses the reverberation in the corresponding rooms, it is quieter and this makes it easier for students and teachers to concentrate," explains Achim Lutz the measure, which is almost complete.

And a third modernization measure in the association of municipalities is about to be completed: the extension of the staff room at the St. Johann elementary school in Konz-Karthaus. The extension was necessary, among other things, because more teachers are now working at the school - and more staff need more space. The new, single-storey building between administration and all-day area is ready, furniture and kitchen are to be delivered in the coming weeks.

"The modernization of schools and gyms is very important to us," says Joachim Weber, Mayor of the city and associated municipality of Konz. "Our administration does its utmost to make learning as pleasant as possible for children and young people. Of course, this also includes bringing the sports halls into shape. In the corona pandemic, a lot had to be canceled in terms of sport and exercise, which fortunately is now possible again. And sport is simply the most fun in a modernized hall.”
