What civil status documents are there? ?

The registry office issues the following civil status documents in accordance with Section 55 of the Civil Status Act (PStG):

• Certified register printouts from all civil status registers
• from the birth register birth certificates
• from the marriage register marriage certificates
• from the civil partnership register civil partnership certificates
• from the death register death certificates
• certified copies from the collection of declarations of death

 Who can apply?

The register of civil status contains personal data that is subject to data protection. According to Section 61 of the Civil Status Act, the issuance of civil status documents and information can only be requested from persons to whom the entry relates, as well as their spouses, ancestors and descendants.

Other persons - i.e. also siblings, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and other relatives - only have a right if they can credibly demonstrate a legal interest.

If you do not belong to the group of people mentioned above, you must present written authorization from an authorized person. In the register of births or deaths, it is sufficient to substantiate a legitimate interest if the application is made by a sibling of the child or the deceased. Persons over the age of 16 are eligible to apply.

In special cases (adoption, change of first name according to the Transsexuals Act) and in the event of blocking notices, the group of people who can request the issuance of civil status documents is restricted.
