Motor vehicle: Seat belt and protective helmet wearing obligation - exemption

To protect road users, the legislator and legislator has stipulated that seat belts must be worn while driving and that suitable protective helmets must be worn when driving motorcycles.
In individual cases, however, there is the possibility of being exempted from this obligation upon request. The resulting significant security risk is at the expense of the applicant.
You can be exempted from the obligation to wear a seat belt by way of exception,
- if it is not possible to wear seat belts for health reasons.
- if the height is less than 150 cm.
You can be exempted from the obligation to wear a protective helmet by way of exception,
- if it is not possible to wear a protective helmet for health reasons.
Necessary documents
If the requirements for an exemption are of a health nature, a medical certificate must be submitted that the exemption to be applied for is absolutely necessary for medical reasons. The certificate need not contain a diagnosis.
If you are less than 150 cm tall, you must also bring a medical certificate with the measured height.

The fee is currently between EUR 10.20 and EUR 767.00 according to the fee schedule for road traffic measures (GebOSt).

period of time
The exemption is revocable and usually granted for a period of one year - unless the medical certificate attests a permanent state of health that cannot be improved; then the exemption can be granted indefinitely.
