Received new PIN for online ID functions

Your identity card includes an electronic proof of identity, the so-called online ID. You can use this to identify yourself online if you are 16 years of age or older.
With your identity card, you will receive a secret number, the so-called one-time PIN. You can use this to set a personal, six-digit identification number (PIN). Along with the one-time PIN, you will receive your unlock code (PUK).
This also applies to:
- the electronic residence permit (eAT)
- the EU citizen card (eID)
You will need a new PIN if:
- You have forgotten or misplaced your PIN
- The PIN is blocked after three incorrect entries and you no longer have the PUK.
- the PIN has fallen into the hands of other people
If you still have your PIN but want a new one, you can change it as often as you like using the appropriate software, such as the AusweisApp. To do this, first enter your current PIN and then your newly chosen PIN twice.
