Noise abatement by Deutsche Bahn
It is intended to be quieter in the city of Konz as well as in the communities of Kanzem and Wiltingen along the Saar route. As part of the “Noise Remediation on Existing Federal Railways” program, Deutsche Bahn (DB) to implement noise abatement measures along the Konz-Karthaus – Saarbrücken railway line in Konz, Kanzem and Wiltingen in order to protect residents from rail noise in the future.

In March 2025, Deutsche Bahn held information events in Konz and Wiltingen to inform residents about the possibilities. Here you can find the presentations presented at the events.
The local municipality of Wiltingen had rejected noise barriers in public spaces.
The Konz city council also only approved a few walls. Through numerous discussions with residents, the council members concluded that most of the proposed walls were not desired by the majority of those affected. Therefore, the council only gave the green light for one wall: a three-meter-high wall along the L137 (connecting Konzer Saarstraße to Filzen), intended to protect Könen from train noise.
The city council only approved a large wall on the condition that it could be shortened. This concerned a three-meter-high wall along the tracks on Granastraße, which, according to the council's wishes, should only be built in the section between the railway bridge over the Saar River and the Konz Mitte train station. The railway company is to investigate whether a shortened wall is feasible and makes sense from a noise abatement perspective.
The federal government's noise abatement program offers not only noise barriers in public spaces but also other options to protect residents from train noise. Homeowners in certain designated areas can receive subsidies for passive measures, such as soundproof windows.
