Tholey Abbey and Finkenrech Leisure Centre
On June 17, 2026, 48 members of the action group "Lifelong Learning, Actively Sharing Knowledge" embarked on an excursion to Saarland under brilliant sunshine. The tour began with a guided tour of the monastery garden and the abbey church of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Mauritius in Tholey, the oldest monastery on German soil. The newly renovated church is particularly distinguished by the three choir windows by Gerhard Richter. Afterwards, we went to the Schaumberg , the "local mountain" of Saarland. Lunch was enjoyed at the Schaumberg-Alm. The 37-meter-high observation tower is dedicated to Franco-German friendship. The excursion continued to Finkenrech Leisure Centre The tour began there with a guided walk. The diverse themed gardens, such as the rose garden and the Asian garden, offered not only relaxation but also inspiration for designing one's own garden at home. After the walk, the participants shared their experiences over coffee and cake. Enjoying the shared experience, they then began their journey home to Konz.
