Drilling, anchors and protective nets for increased safety
Extensive slope stabilization work will begin next week in Konz on the extension of Güterstraße below the street "Am Hang". This measure is necessary to permanently secure the steep embankment against landslides and rockfall.
The work will initially be carried out in the rear part of the slope. However, starting Monday, November 9, 2026, the parking lots between the Brienon Bridge and the recycling center will also be affected. For safety reasons, the closure of this parking lot is unavoidable. The parking spaces will likely be unavailable for at least two weeks. The city of Konz and the companies involved are doing everything possible to complete the work in this area as quickly as possible and to reopen the parking spaces promptly.
To stabilize the slope, three-meter-deep holes are drilled into the rock. High-strength steel anchors are then inserted and grouted with a cement slurry. A special wire mesh with protective mats is attached to these anchors. This stabilization system holds back loose rock and soil, preventing debris or stones from reaching the areas below. The forces generated are transferred through the mesh structure and the anchors into the load-bearing subsoil.
In the rear section of the slope, the embankment is partially stabilized with shotcrete.
In total, around 1,500 square meters of embankment area will be secured as part of the project.
The city of Konz asks residents and road users for their understanding regarding the necessary restrictions during the construction work.
