Kick-off for the 2026 Summer Reading and Storytelling Program

Kick-off for the 2026 Summer Reading and Storytelling Program

Since this week, everything in the Konz city library revolves around books, stories and the joy of reading: This year's summer reading and storytelling program has started and will run until August 16, 2026.

The event has been a regular feature of the summer program at the Konz city library for many years and enjoys great popularity. Last year, around 1000 children participated and immersed themselves in the world of books together – a success that the library hopes to build on this summer.

For the first time, the summer reading and storytelling program is taking place at the new location of the city library in Administration Building II, Am Markt 11. There, the young participants will have access to around 1300 new and current children's and young adult books – for reading themselves or having them read to them.

Participation is free of charge, as usual. Children and young people aged six to 16 can participate in the summer reading program, while the summer reading program is aimed at children aged two and up.

Anyone who reads or has at least three books read to them during the promotional period will receive a certificate and a small prize. In addition, there is a chance to win attractive prizes in the nationwide prize draw.

Mayor Guido Wacht emphasizes the importance of the initiative for the city: “The summer reading and storytelling program is a fantastic opportunity to inspire children and young people to love books and to playfully strengthen their reading skills. The city library does outstanding work here year after year. My thanks go to all the staff and supporters who make this successful project possible.”

The summer reading and storytelling program at the Konz City Library is made possible by the support of numerous sponsors. Special thanks go to the Nikolaus Koch Foundation, the Reh Foundation, the Trier Saarburg Future Foundation, Volksbank Trier Eifel, Sparkasse Trier, the Lions Club Saarburg, the Elenz company, and the LBZ Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Konz city library looks forward to welcoming many children and families who love reading, as well as to a successful summer of reading and storytelling 2026 at the new location.
