Sustainable and fast charging of electric cars at Konz Town Hall
Saar-Mosel Infrastructure Company (SMI GmbH) is expanding the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the Konz municipality and has put its first rapid charging station into operation. SMI GmbH is a joint venture between Konz Municipal Utilities (Verbandsgemeindewerke Konz AöR) and Trier Municipal Utilities (SWT). The company's goal is to actively implement the energy and heating transition locally.
The first step is a new fast-charging station in downtown Konz, which has been in operation since this week. The new charging infrastructure is powered entirely by CO2-neutral electricity from the Konz municipality.

The station, with a total charging capacity of 150 kW, is located in the parking lot behind Konz Town Hall. It has two ports, allowing two electric vehicles to charge simultaneously. Payment is possible via the Portazon app, the SWT charging card, or a QR code on the charging station with a credit card/EC debit card (Ladepay). Cards and apps from other providers are also accepted via roaming.
This fall, SMI GmbH will also commission a rapid charging station in Temmels near the Klassen butcher shop. With this, the subsidiary of Verbandsgemeindewerke Konz AöR and SWT is setting a clear example for sustainability and future-oriented mobility.
Price information:
The general charging price for DC charging (fast charging) is currently 59.14 cents/kWh, and for AC charging, 39.14 cents/kWh. Charging is particularly worthwhile for SWT electricity customers: With the Portazon app, they can charge at the same rates as at home. Since the beginning of the year, a kilowatt hour at the public SWT charging station has been almost 50 percent cheaper than the general charging price for SWT and Portazon customers.
