Water supply branch

The aim of the water supply is to supply the citizens with clean and hygienically perfect water in sufficient quantities. Before the water reaches the end consumer, it must be constantly checked and examined. The quality is specified by the Drinking Water Ordinance.

For you as a water consumer, we recommend that you pay particular attention to the specified degrees of hardness when dosing the detergent, as this not only saves you money, but also makes a significant contribution to environmental protection.

On the following pages you will find further information about the supply areas, the water supply Saar-Obermosel (WSO) and the water analyses.

Water analyzes of the drinking water distributed in the Konz association of municipalities

The table below contains the values of the water from the central elevated tanks of the Konz municipal utilities in Wasserliesch and the Saar-Upper Moselle water supply (WSO) in Mannebach. The values that apply to your living area are shown in the overview of responsibilities.

The water analyzes in the Konz-Löllberg area must be requested from Stadtwerke Trier (telephone 0651/717-2601) or on the website of the Stadtwerke Trier, Wasserwerk Irsch , to be viewed.

As can be seen from the following table, the legally required limit values are undershot by far. For you as a water consumer, we recommend that you pay particular attention to the specified degrees of hardness when dosing the detergent, as this not only saves you money, but also makes a significant contribution to environmental protection.

  • Water supply Saar-Upper Moselle

On January 1st, 2009, the Water supply Saar-Upper Moselle joint institution under public law – WSO – founded. The founding was the result of a long journey.

    History:

In the past there were 3 water supply companies in the Konz - Saarburg area (Verbandsgemeindewerke Konz, Verbandsgemeindewerke Saarburg and Kreiswasserwerk Trier-Saarburg - KWW). An investigation by the GeKom (subsidiary of the GStB RLP) showed that many synergies could be created if other structures were developed. The local networks with the house connections of the KWW became the responsibility of the respective association of municipalities (water supply is the primary task of the association of municipalities according to the municipal code RLP). Since the wells and the central processing plants are both in the area of the VGW Konz and VGW Saarburg, they could not be assigned to one of the VGW. For this reason, an institution under public law (AöR) was founded to operate these facilities.

    Tasks:

Accordingly, the WSO has the task of promoting and treating drinking water. A treatment is necessary with regard to the carbonic acid content (aggressiveness of the water).

In order to be able to fulfill its purpose, it operates 3 wells in Mannebachtal and 3 wells in Wawerner Bruch. It treats the drinking water in the central elevated tank in Mannebach and distributes it to the transfer tanks to the two municipal utilities in Konz and Saarburg.

The two municipal utility companies then deliver the drinking water to the customers via their local networks and prepare the bills.

The WSO also supplies drinking water to Luxembourg, to the local water association SIDERE, which in turn forwards the drinking water to various Luxembourg communities.

    Management:

Since the WSO does not provide its own staff, the necessary work is carried out by the employees of the municipal utilities in Konz and Saarburg, who record and bill their expenses with report slips. The board of the WSO consists of the plant managers of the two associated municipal plants.

    Further development:

In the course of 2016, the district council of the district of Trier-Saarburg decided to withdraw from the WSO. This paves the way for further organizational studies. It is currently being examined whether further synergies can be created by taking on further tasks in the area of water supply and waste water disposal.
