Konz: Commemoration of the National Day of Mourning 2025
Numerous commemorative events took place in the Konz municipality on the occasion of Remembrance Day. In the town of Konz, representatives from clubs, associations, municipal bodies, and some citizens gathered at the war memorial "Auf dem Sprung" (On the Verge). The commemoration ceremony was solemnly co-organized by students from the Konz Gymnasium (high school).
In his speech, the mayor of the town and municipality of Konz, Guido Wacht, emphasized the importance of the National Day of Mourning:
"Even if the significance of collective mourning and remembrance on this day is sometimes only actively observed in small groups within the population, I see it as our duty, on behalf of the state and in the conscience of our nation, to continually encourage citizens to confront the darkest chapters of our recent history. It is precisely in this sense that I understand the National Day of Mourning: as an invitation to reflect on what the countless war dead and victims of violence, whom we commemorate on this day, can teach us for the present. Therefore, I am particularly pleased that the students of the Konz Gymnasium are once again participating in this event. Many thanks for that. I am convinced that this look back is important for all generations in order to shape today and tomorrow responsibly and peacefully together."

Furthermore, Guido Wacht pointed out how many stakeholders in Konz are involved in projects specifically addressing this issue:
"It makes me proud to see how our town and our municipality are contributing to ensuring that Germany remains a peaceful, cosmopolitan country. Konz is committed to peace, tolerance, and international understanding, as well as a united Europe, through a number of projects – for example, the activities of the Partnership for Democracy in the Konz municipality. Citizens are also involved in these goals in our schools, clubs, and churches in a wide variety of ways. All of this commitment is important because it brings people into conversation with one another. Only through dialogue can divisions be overcome and understanding for others develop."
The Concordia Konz music club provided the musical accompaniment for the event. The event concluded with a ceremonial wreath-laying by the VdK Konz local chapter and the Konz volunteer fire department.
