Nationwide warning day on September 12, 2024

On Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 11 a.m. In many places in Germany, sirens and smartphones are blaring again to practice for an emergency. On the nationwide warning day, which takes place on this day, the functionality of warning devices is to be checked for possible weaknesses. In addition to sirens, this mostly means digital warning options, e.g. apps, media and the "cell broadcast" introduced last year - an SMS that reaches many smartphones in Germany directly.

Above all, messages via "warning apps" and "cell broadcasts" will reach people in the Konz municipality in a flash. A warning by siren is not yet possible here. At the moment, the sirens can only emit the warning tone to alert the fire brigade. The tone for the civil protection service to warn the population sounds different: It is not a continuous tone that is interrupted twice, but a rising and falling howl that differs from the normal alarm. So that the sirens are able to emit different tone sequences, they will be converted nationwide in the coming years.
