Expansion of digital infrastructures in Rhineland-Palatinate (broadband)
service description
The Rhineland-Palatinate state government is promoting the development and expansion of digital infrastructures as well as the establishment of WiFi hotspots in municipal areas. The availability of high bandwidths (50 Mbit/s) increased by 78.7 percentage points from mid-2011 to the end of 2018, reaching 85.5 percent at the end of 2018. Rhineland-Palatinate is therefore in first place in terms of growth among the federal states during this period.
In the coming years, the focus of all efforts will be on switching the network infrastructure from copper to fiber optic. The Network Alliance for Rhineland-Palatinate, which is made up of the telecommunications industry, its associations, the municipal leaders and the chambers, has also agreed on this together with the state.
