Register for admission to a primary school

  • service description

Primary school is the first common level of the education system. It introduces your child to school learning. Pupils learn to work and act independently and together. Your child is guided to adopt important values, attitudes and behaviors. Primary school supports pupils in their individual development and offers orientation.

The primary school's educational work is geared to the students' respective developmental stage. Your child should learn to increasingly meet the demands placed on them independently, to set their own tasks, to achieve their own results and to take on responsibility within the scope of their own abilities. They should be supported in expressing their opinions freely but respectfully and in contributing to peaceful coexistence.

When your child reaches school age, you must register him or her at the primary school responsible for you.

  • procedure

The elementary school provides for reliable lesson times with the lessons being distributed as evenly as possible over the school mornings. The daily school time up to and including grade 2 should be at least four hours in the morning, then five hours. The daily school time is divided into lessons, relaxation phases as well as play and movement times.

In the elementary school, pupils from grades 1 to 4 are taught. At the end of the grades, they generally advance to the next grade without being promoted. In grades 1 and 2 no numerical grades are awarded; the parents receive information on their child's development through verbal reports at the end of the school year and a recorded parent-teacher-child conversation in the middle of the second school year. At the end of the semester in grades three and four, the children receive pure grade reports, which are explained in a recorded parent-teacher-child conversation. At the end of the school year in grades three and four, the students receive a certificate that combines numerical grades and verbal explanations. At the decision of the general conference and in agreement with the school parents' council, the assessment can continue to be exclusively verbal in grade 3 for the first half of the year or for the entire school year.

The following learning areas and subjects are taught: religion/ethics, German, mathematics, general studies, music, sports, fine arts/textile design/handicrafts and integrated foreign language work in English or French. No grades are given for the foreign language lessons, but a portfolio is kept.
